Our Story
Basin Resources is a productive resource company, carved into existence out of the concept of strategic alliance. Two principals of long-standing Silver Valley businesses, in different niche sectors of the local construction industry, partnered with a seasoned heavy equipment dealership executive to identify an opportunity within the supply and demand economics of the market. Simply put, out of the box thinking regarding relationships within the local construction market put Basin Resources in to play.
Partners Eddie Davis, Joe Zanetti and Jeff Nearing presented an outsourcing venture to widely known Zanetti Brothers of Osburn, Idaho in 2015 assuming management and operations of four Silver Valley based rock quarries. Specializing in the production of aggregate products for Superfund remediation projects. Under a per ton royalty agreement determined by amounts mined and sold, a seamless transition proved the concept of Basin Resources to be profitable.
If you are not moving forward, the world will pass you by. With that in mind Basin Resources began scanning for other possible underutilized productive resources. In 2016, a family owned but non-operational basalt source in St. Maries, Idaho was located. Conversation with the family resulted in a lease of the pit and Basin Resources has been providing basalt material to local contractors, Idaho Department of Transportation and Benewah County since.
Quickly thereafter the Willow Creek source on Highway 3 roughly eight miles east-northeast of Harrison, Idaho was identified. This quarry had also been developed and operated for many years by a local family producing – aggregate and selling product to –, but was no longer in operation. Basin Resources originally negotiated a two-season lease of this source but eventually entered a purchase agreement. Legalities in Kootenai County require a conditional use permit be kept current and in good standing, renewed every three years to remain operational. The growth of Basin Resources was controlled, and the risk of expansion carefully calculated as to not overwhelm the business model.
However, in 2018 a unique opportunity was presented by a friend to open a greenfield, or new from the ground down quarry. Located near the town of Harrison, Idaho along Highway 97 this potential resource was well positioned to serve the development needs of the east side of Lake Coeur d’Alene. Not only would this pit fall in alignment with our geographical expansion goals, it would provide Basin Resources with an undeniable quality and quantity of aggregate products. In conjunction with the landowner and a hired engineer, Basin Resources secured a conditional use permit from Kootenai County in the summer of 2018 for the mining of this quarry. Development of this raw source encompassed stripping, blasting, building access, installing truck scales, etc. broadening the scope of Basin Resources capabilities.
The most recent acquired resource and the most substantial opportunity to date for Basin Resources is the joint venture purchase of the Granite Hill quarry north of Athol, Idaho along Highway 95 with our crushing and screening contractor, Peak Sand & Gravel. Located on the southern edge of Bonner County it came with a grandfathered mining permit not requiring annual renewal and review. Having previously produced material in this pit, Peak Sand & Gravel predicted a future opportunity along Highway 95 would create demand for the quarry’s product. In October 2020 the Idaho Department of Transportation solicited bids and awarded a contract for a $20 million dollar major highway project directly along this property’s eastern border. Basin Resources and Peak Sand & Gravel were successful in bidding and securing all the aggregate and asphalt plant mix, required for completion of this project.
Basin Resources is committed to successfully carving a path to profitability through strategic alliance, joint venture, and relationships. From partners to customers to vendors Basin Resources is looking to add productive resources to their team.
